9 Week Immersion Course

Yoga Sutras are the “alpha and omega” of yoga philosophy compiled by Patanjali – the father of Yoga around 250 BC. They are generally not easy to interpret on your own as they are codified Sanskrit (where sometimes the meaning is hidden). However, when understood with proper guidance and without any filter in their original form  – they could be like a cook-book to guide you step by step towards the Samadhi  – the ultimate goal of Yoga and that is why they are also called as Raja Yoga ( Royal Path of Yoga).

We all will read most of the sutra of chapter 1 & 2 ( Samadhi and Sadhana Pada) in Sanskrit and English, chanting some of them, discussing and understanding their meaning in a friendly group. Sometimes laugh…when we pronounce long Sanskrit words in a funny way!! Please note you will have to devote some of your quality time to do some homework. quizzes, research so a deep desire is needed not just curiosity to join this unique life transformational course.

Yoga Sutras are full of wisdom contained in just 4 pages but are not everyone’s cup of tea ….but if you are READY and have a deep desire to go beyond the mind and understand the formulas (Sutras) of enlightenment as given by Patanjali in a small friendly and interactive group…..this is the course which will guide and actually transform you…

Course Delivery and Learning Methodology: The structure of the course over the 9 weeks requires commitment to the set time on zoom for discussion together, and then some self study over the week. This encourages active participation to aid understanding, and allows an open minded perspective to the sutra meaning being studied than perhaps previously held in thought.

We will learn the sutra, in sanskrit, and the literal meaning of each word in English. This, naturally, seems quite daunting in the first instance, especially to those new to the language. However, once we all had a laugh, and realised, we are all in the same boat, we begin to relax into it and feel the courage to give it a go. Of course, there is no pressure either! and you always have Praveen to support and encourage.

The next step is to discuss the meaning of the sutra itself. What did Patanjali mean by it?What sort of questions did his first students have for him to write this sutra? What do we think or feel about it? How might this apply to us in our modern daily life?

The combination of this invaluable discussion time, homework and quizzes, self study, alongside our own spiritual practice means that as the course unfolds, we naturally begin to view our way in the world in a different way. We begin to notice how practical daily tasks or experiences might now cause us to react differently. If you are a yoga or meditation teacher, this will allow you to integrate this new learning into your teaching practices, benefiting your students immensely.
